Onsen

Tsuruoka is known for being the city in Japan with the most “National Health Resort Hot Springs” (国民保養温泉地) in all Japan. In 2022, the Ministry of Environment have designated 77 hot springs (“onsen” in Japanese) of that kind in Japan, and Tsuruoka hosts 4 of them which are: Yutagawa Onsen (title received in 2001), Yunohama Onsen (2018), Atsumi Onsen (2019) and Yura Onsen (2021). Those hot spring towns are praised for the health benefits of their water and their public facilities.
